Rules and Conditions

1.   The competition will be open to amateur golfers who have been members of an affiliated golf club in the North District for at least three months before the competition begins and who are in possession of a handicap not exceeding nine.  
2.   The competition will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf and the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by R&A Rules Ltd.
3.   The competition will be played over 36 holes.   Teams will consist of three players, all members of the same golf club.  Entrants may play only for the club where their handicap is held.    In each round the best two scores for each team will be totalled (the third score being discarded).   After 36 holes the two totals for each team will be added, and the team with the lowest aggregate will be the winners.
4.   The competition is governed by the Executive of the North District and that Executive will make decisions and settle disputes, such decisions and settlements being final.
5.   The competition is for the North District Team Trophy, and the winners will qualify to go forward to the Scottish Final.   Prize vouchers will be given - £50 for each member of the winning team, £40 for each of the second placed team, and £30 for each of the third placed team.  
6.   The competition will be played at Tain Golf Club on Sunday 27 July 2008.
7.   The closing date for entries will be Friday 11 July 2008 at 1700 hrs., by which time an entry, to be accepted, must be in the hands of the Secretary of the North District.   It is the responsibility of club secretaries to ensure that the Secretary receives their entry by the due time on the due date.   The North District Secretary will be the sole arbiter of compliance with this requirement, and no correspondence nor discussion will be entered into with regard to the decision in this respect.
8.   Forms of entry will be in the hands of all Secretaries of member clubs in the North District not later than 1st April 2008.   The form of entry requires to be signed by the Secretary of the Club, whose signature certifies the bona fides of the entrants and the accuracy of their handicaps.   Clubs may enter one or two teams.
9.   The entry fee is £45 per team, and will not be refunded in any circumstances other than balloting out hereunder.
10.   A competitor is not permitted to withdraw at any stage of the competition except for emergency reasons or medical circumstances explained to and accepted by the Executive.   A competitor failing to notify the Executive in person of his withdrawal before departing the competition will be subject to an automatic one year ban from all North District events, such ban also to apply if such withdrawal is not accepted as aforesaid.   Only in exceptional circumstances and on appeal to the Executive will the ban be uplifted.
11.   Late entries will not be accepted but any entry received late will be placed on a reserve list, for admission to the competition in the event of withdrawals or otherwise at the discretion of the Executive.
12.   The draw for play will be made and published on the website (www.sgunorthgolf.com) and in the Press & Journal not later than Tuesday 22 July 2008.   No preferred tee times will be granted.   The Executive will endeavour to comply with travelling arrangements specified, but accepts no obligation to do so.
13.   Caddies will be permitted.   Buggies may not be used.
14.   The Trophy remains the property of the North District.   It will be held by the Golf Club of the winning team, and that Golf Club will be responsible for returning it to the Secretary of the North District not later than 11 July 2009. Having had the Trophy engraved.
15.   Competitors will be allowed the courtesy of Tain Golf Club for a practice round on Saturday 26 July 2008, prior booking being required.
16.   The Executive has fixed the maximum number of entries at 25 (Teams of three), and reserves the right to ballot out if required.   The entry fee of entrants balloted out will be returned.
17.   In the event of a tie the discarded scores will be decisive - in the first instance the totals over 36 holes, and thereafter if no result has emerged, over the last 18 holes only, and if still necessary following the usual countback system for the last round - 9, 6, 3 holes, and 1 hole.   Should the scores still be tied, hole-by-hole match play will be used for the discarded score in the last full round. 
18.   So far as competitors under 18 years old at 0000hrs on 1 January 2007 are concerned, the competition will be run in accordance with the Child Protection Policy of the North District, copies of which are available form the Secretary on request.
19.   The Executive reserves the right to amend or add to these Rules in order to achieve a result.
