RULES & CONDITIONS

1.

The competitions are open to amateur male golfers who are 18 or under at 00:00 hours on 1 January 2008, in possession of a CONGU handicap, and who are members of a Golf Club which is a member of the North District or North East District of the Scottish Golf Union.

2.

The competitions will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf and the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by R & A Rules Limited.

3.

Each competition will be over 36 holes and the lowest aggregates will win the various prizes.

4.

Each competition is governed by the Executive of the North District and the Executive will make decisions, and settle disputes, such decisions and settlements being final.

5.

The competitons will be: (a) Lowest Aggregate Scratch: Prize - H.R.Spence Trophy, a Silver Medal and a voucher for £65. (b) Second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth Scratch. Prizes respectively vouchers for £50, £40, £30, £25 and £20. Second will also receive a Bronze Medal. (c) Lowest Aggregate Scratch under 16 at 00:00 on 1 January 2008. Prize voucher for £40. (d) Second and third Lowest Aggregate Scratch under 16 as above. Prize vouchers for £30, £20. (e) First, second and third Lowest Aggregate Handicap. Prizes 6, 4, 2 balls. (f) Prizes under (a) and (b) above are excluded from the prize list for (c) and (d) above. Prizes winners under (a), (b), (c) and (d) above are excluded from the prize list for (e) above.

The competitions will be played at Elgin Golf Club on Sunday 27 April 2008.

The closing date for entries will be Friday 11 April 2008 at 17:00 hours, by which time an entry, to be accepted, must be in the hands of the Secretary of the North District. It is the responsibilty of the entrant to ensure that an entry is received by the Secretary by the due time on the due date. The Secretary will be the sole arbiter of compliance with this requirement, and no correspondence nor discussion will be entered into with regard to the decision in this respect.

All entries must include Full Name, Address, Date of Birth, Contact Telephone Number, Home Club and Exact Handicap. Forms of entry will be in the hands of all Secretaries of member clubs in the North District not later than 29 February 2008. Similar forms will be in the hands of the Secretary of the North and North East District by the same date. The form of entry requires to be signed by the entrant and the also by the Secretary of the Home Club, whose signature certifies the bona fides of the entrant and the accuracy of his handicap.

9.

The entry fee is £10 and will not be refunded in any circumstances other than balloting out hereunder.

Forms of entry and Rules and Conditions will be posted on the North District Website (www.sgunorthgolf.com) by 29 February 2008 and may be downloaded therefrom.

11.

A competitor is not permitted to withdraw at any stage of the competition except for emergency reasons or medical circumstances explained to and accepted by the Executive. A competitor failing to notify the Executive in person of his withdrawal before departing the competition venue will be subject to an automatic one year ban from all North District events, such ban also to apply if such withdrawal is not accepted as aforesaid. Only in exceptional circumstances and on appeal to the Executive will the ban be uplifted.

12.

Late entries will not be accepted but any entry received late will be placed on a reserve list, for admission to the competition in the event of withdrawals or otherwise at the discretion of the Executive.

13.

The draw for play will be made and published on the website (www.sgunorthgolf.com) and in the Press & Journal not later than Tuesday 22 April 2008. No preferred tee times will be granted. The Executive will endeavour to comply with travelling arrangements specified, but accepts no obligation to do so.

14.

Caddies will not be permitted.

15.

The H.R.Spence Trophy remains the property of the North District. It will be held by the Golf Club of the winner, and that winner and that Golf Club will be jointly responsible for returning it to the Secretary of the North District not later than 17 April 2009, having had the Trophy engraved.

16.

Competitors will be allowed the courtesy of Elgin Golf Club for a practice round on Friday 25 April or Saturday 26 April, prior booking being required.

17.

The Executive reserves the right to fix a maximum number of entries, and to ballot out in ascending order of handicap. The entry fee of an entrant balloted out will be returned.

18.

A tie for the Trophy will be decided by a play-off over two holes, thereafter sudden death played immediately. Any other tie for first place will be decided by matching scorecards, otherwise known as countback. A tie for a lesser place will remain a tie and the voucher amounts will be amalgamated and divided, with an additional Bronze Medal supplied if required.

19.

The competition will be run in accordance with the Child Protection Policy of the North District, copies of which are available from the Secretary on request.

20.

The Executive reserves the right to amend or add to these Rules in order to achieve a result.
